On Saturday, 25 August 2018, Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ students competed in the Tournament of Minds (TOM) at La Trobe University, Bundoora.
The two teams competed in the STEM Challenge and Social Science Challenge. The teams had 10 minutes to present their Long Term Challenge to an audience and panel of judges in the confined space of a three metre by three metre performance area. The teams also participated in a Spontaneous Challenge, which required them to think on their feet and work collaboratively as a team. There are many rules and requirements that teams need to follow in order to complete their Challenge.
We are proud of our Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ Team students and would like to congratulate them on their excellent performance for our first TOM participation on Tournament Day. The experiences they had throughout preparing and presenting the Challenge on the day were stimulating and amazing. Our students are able to take the challenge and explore the possibilities of ideas which aim to develop them as problem solvers, communicators and thinkers. Students are also awarded with TOM certificates for their participation.
We thank our TOM parents who have been supportive, encouraging and providing their assistance in getting the kids together on Tournament Day. Your presence and enthusiasm have made a huge impact in our students’ involvement.
We would also like to say BIG THANK YOU to Ms Noori Ahmad and Ms Cheryl Becker for facilitating our students and all staff who have been supporting us throughout the process of Tournament of Minds. It has been a remarkable journey for Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ being part of TOM this year which led to the success of the program.
Looking forward to 2019 TOM.

Shahidah was a key staff member of Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ when it was first established in 2009. With her passion and enthusiasm, she hoped to be an effective and inspirational leader for Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ, a school that has the potential for providing opportunities for high academic achievement and personal growth for all of its student population.
Shahidah has accomplished 16 years of teaching and administrative experiences in a variety of school settings in Singapore and Australia. These opportunities have enabled her to develop strong communication, interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills that have allowed her to cultivate a supportive learning environment at Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ.
In a management role in Singapore as the Education Director of Al Khair Education Centre, Shahidah was involved in setting up the centre, and contributed to the successful planning, and management of curriculum program for 600 students aged 3-6 years. This experience also involved facilitating and supervising 35 staff to create a flourishing learning and working environment. From 2006 - 2008 she taught at Australian International Academy, which was her first introduction to the International Baccalaureate program and inspired her to further her studies in teaching.
Shahidah graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. In 2013 she completed a Master of Education (International Baccalaureate), and is fully trained through the Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment Program in developing cognitive strategies in children.
