This week marks the start of National Literacy and Numeracy Week, which aims to celebrate learning and raise awareness of the importance of reading, writing and mathematical skills. At Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ, we will be celebrating LITERACY AND NUMERACY WEEK starting Monday, 4 September to Friday, 8 September. Monday, 4 September 2017
On Monday, students will take part in guessing how many jellybeans are in the jars. The closest guess will get to take away the whole jellybean jar to enjoy with family/friends.

Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ will host a Storybook Character Parade for all Junior School students. We encourage students to dress up as their favourite storybook character. Students who are dressed as a Storybook Character will walk in the parade with their classes. Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy following the guidelines in this letter. To support students’ feelings of safety and security at school, violent or frightening costumes are not acceptable. No weapons or dangerous-looking items will be permitted to accompany a costume. All costumes are required to adhere to the ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ dress-code (costumes must be loose and non-see through).
Please talk with your child about how he or she would like to participate in this event, and mark your calendars! See your child’s teacher for further information.

Foundation, Year 1 & 2 students will enjoy a Pyjama Day Picnic while stories are being read to them by teachers. We encourage your child to come in their Pyjama and bring a favourite book for the picnic.

OPENING HOURS
A variety of books are available for purchase at the book fair at affordable prices. Your child may purchase books and attractive stationery during lunch time and after school hours. The more the purchases made by students in the Book Fair, the greater will be the revenue and this will help us to obtain new books and resources for our classroom collection from Scholastic.

Shahidah was a key staff member of Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ when it was first established in 2009. With her passion and enthusiasm, she hoped to be an effective and inspirational leader for Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ, a school that has the potential for providing opportunities for high academic achievement and personal growth for all of its student population.
Shahidah has accomplished 16 years of teaching and administrative experiences in a variety of school settings in Singapore and Australia. These opportunities have enabled her to develop strong communication, interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills that have allowed her to cultivate a supportive learning environment at Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ.
In a management role in Singapore as the Education Director of Al Khair Education Centre, Shahidah was involved in setting up the centre, and contributed to the successful planning, and management of curriculum program for 600 students aged 3-6 years. This experience also involved facilitating and supervising 35 staff to create a flourishing learning and working environment. From 2006 - 2008 she taught at Australian International Academy, which was her first introduction to the International Baccalaureate program and inspired her to further her studies in teaching.
Shahidah graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. In 2013 she completed a Master of Education (International Baccalaureate), and is fully trained through the Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment Program in developing cognitive strategies in children.
