Parent Education Seminar (PES): Cyber Safety

20 March 2017

We know that parents, families and carers are some of the most important influences on a child’s education. When parents are positively engaged in their child’s education, they are more likely to attend and perform better at school.

Effective parent and family engagement in education is more than just participation in school meetings and helping with fundraising, it is actively engaging with your child’s learning, both at home and at school. When schools and families work together, children do better and stay in school longer.

Why is parent engagement important?

Parent engagement is associated with improvements across a range of indicators, including: - better education outcomes - enhanced engagement with school work - more regular school attendance - better behaviour - increased social skills.

Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ is committed towards holistic development of children so parent education seminars have been one of our well demanded sessions focused around topics chosen by our parent community. The trend of successful parent seminars has continued this year as well. We had yet another fantastic parent session on Tuesday, 14 March on CYBERSAFETY.

Digital technology has no doubt made the job of parenting a bit harder and our discussion was all about how this process can be made easier with awareness and knowledge. We had members from the Australian Federal Police who enlightened our parent cohort with the perils of digital technology and equipped them with valuable knowledge that can assist in raising children who are responsible and safe users of the cyberspace.

Our parents were delighted to gain much knowledge as indicated by the feedback survey result indicating a satisfaction score of 92%. The Wellbeing Department would like to thank the college leadership team, administration team, maintenance team and Mrs Sarah Wills from the Parents and Friends Forum (PFF) for assisting us in organising this program.

We look forward to meeting you all again in another great parent session, Watch this space!
